Flipkart takes on BookMyShow expands business, looks to sell Movie Tickets Online

India’s biggest online retailer Flipkart Ltd is growing its full fledge online groceries business even as it intends to now explore new area selling film tickets online ahead of a proposed big bang takeover of the company by American retailer Walmart Inc., people aware of the developments said.

Flipkart will likewise soon enter the food retail business, the people specified above said.

Arch-rival Amazon India has piloted its food retail business in Pune.

Flipkart will also soon launch consumables and FMCG (fast moving consumer goods) products under its Billion private label brand, which is the brainchild of founder and executive chairman Sachin Bansal.

Billion was propelled in mid-2017, as a major aspect of a push to convey new clients to Flipkart by offering low valued products.

The Bengaluru-based retailer has reserved several hundreds of millions of dollars to grow its online groceries and FMCG business, the people specified above said.
